Yup! That's little me - cute and without overly-crazy hair! I was born in Miami, FL of Cuban immigrant parents who were also children of immigrants. I grew up on a dairy farm in South Burlington, VT. Some people will tell you I was popular, outspoken and carefree. I will tell you it was all a front of feeling like odd girl out and riddled with insecurity.
When scholarships didn't pan out I joined the Army right out of high school. Numerous deployments, 28 countries, friends that are now family, my kids and husband are all because of my service. Was there rough times? OH FOR SURE!
Do I regret my service? ABSOLUTELY NOT
Being a multi sole survivor, 8x cancer survivor and constantly dealing with PTSD has for sure changed my outlook on life. When it comes to life, especially my kids, its all about experiences vs material items. You will absolutely see those kids on a Trip to Australia or backpacking the Andes. You will also see them hustling to pay for the experiences too. I believe in #generationalimpact and actively work with our youth in a variety of projects.
In this journey, while I do plan for the future, I have opted to live in a "be where your hands are" approach. I live breath by breath, moment by moment. With hopes that it turns into day by day then week by week.
You will also hear me say "Space & Grace" A LOT!
In Yourself
Space = Take a knee, change your socks, drink water and breath. (Take it literally or figurally, however you need)
Grace = Allow yourself to be pulled up by others, even if that is by your hair while having a hissy fit.
In Others
Space = The room to come talk or to force the chat.
Grace = To work through things.
